Christmas Cherry Bars

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp almond extract
1 cup cherry preserves
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Powdered sugar for dusting

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in almond extract.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan. Spoon cherry preserves over the batter.
Drop remaining batter in small dollops over the preserves and spread gently. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden and set. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
